watr1870 The collection reminds me of modern-day psalms. The lyrics do not attempt to pretty up the ugly side of life’s challenges and pain. The psalmist writes “Why do the wicked prosper?” He writes the words as a question in his prayer to God. Then he comes back to his resolve to trust God with the complexity of understanding. This song explores suffering and death What does faith feel like on the other side of broken?’ Then the writer ends with being content to simply know God is God. Favorite track: The Other Side of Broken.

I got a picture of You When your blood ran red I got a picture of You From the scars in Your hands I got a picture of you From the words you said I love you I’ve never seen you I’ve read the story About a kingdom A place called glory It’s boggled my mind Almost every time I’ve heard it… I’ve heard of angels walking among us But you are greater Than any other It’s caused me to think why a King could Lay down his crown and surrender… I got a picture of You When your blood ran red I got a picture of You From the scars in Your hands I got a picture of you From the words you said I love you I think I’ve seen you In my mom and dad I caught a glimpse of you From that old man (Who stopped on road and helped me that time Said to have a good night, wouldn’t take a dime (In the lady with a child that stopped to comfort mine Took them in her arms, said everything’s alright) I got a picture of You In the way they smiled I got a picture of you So tender and kind I got a picture of you It seemed to stop time It made me cry Written by Ricky R. You’ve been crying I can see it in your eyes And hear the teardrops falling Signs of struggle It happens every time you’re alone You’ve been thinking Of the love that you had It’s gone now A thing of the past  Drifting Far, far away There is a love everlasting There is a truth that abounds Come, now It’s yours for the asking Love everlasting love Broken hearted Perhaps your greatest fear Has seemed to come upon you Starting over And the moment you begin you’re through So stop thinking About the loves that you’ve had They’re gone now Things of the past Drifting Far, far away Love is patient, Love is kind Covers every fault, Love is faithful every time Love is a healer, takes away the pain Love is forgiveness, brings freedom from shame There is love everlasting There is truth that abounds Come, now It’s yours for the asking Love everlasting love Written by Ricky R. What does faith feel like on the other side of broken? All I hold onto are the words you have spoken  I feel that I’m sinking, free fallin’ Beneath me I’m asking for help, I’m losing myself Im dying a slow death  What does peace feel like in a world full of sorrow? All I believe in is for a better day tomorrow  I’m pushing, I’m fighting  I’m praying, I’m crying  I’m asking for help, I’m losing myself I’m dying a slow death  You are… The light in the darkness  Your way… The path of truth Your voice… The sound of deliverance  My hope is found in You What does hope feel like on the other side of hopeless? When vision is dim and words are worthless I let go of fear, let go of pain  Look to the sky, I call on Your name I’m asking for help, I’m losing myself I’m dying a slow death I will stand with the heart of a lion I will not quit, I will not faint,  Believing You are the answer  When my feet are held to the fire  I will not quit, I will not faint,  Believing You are the answer Written by Ricky R. Restored 04:33
Stay close to my shoulder I will walk with you Walk right by my side Step by step Lean your weight on my arms I won’t let you go Hold tight to my hand I won’t lose my grip I heard a voice in the distant wind Calling me Calling me home I feel a stir in my soul again Come alive Come alive dry bones I see a cloud forming for rain The desert ready to bloom again This is the moment I waited for This is my time to be restored Unload your baggage and burden I will carry it Release all who wounded and hurt you Just forgive Rise from the ashes of sadness And breathe again Come out of the tomb of yesterday Choose to live Come alive, come alive Come alive, come alive (Repeat) Written by Ricky R. Unshackled 05:10
I’m an ordinary man, in ordinary pain And I’m tempted by sin, like a moth to the flame  I want to run and hide, but there’s no place to go So I’ll fall on my knees, cause You’re the only help I know Unshackle my heart, set me free Unshackle my heart, set me free I’ve been blown by the wind, soaked in the rain My life bears the scars, the mark of Cain God can hear me… am I too far away Only you can save me, so I run to you and pray  And in my soul, I believe Your grace will rescue me I’m an ordinary man, in ordinary pain I’ve been blown by the wind, soaked in the rain Written by Ricky R. If healing never comes I will be thankful If healing never comes I will have hope I will trust the One Who makes all things possible I will trust the One Who gives rest to my soul And I will rise on the wings of the morning And I will sail on the crystal sea And I will stand with millions of angels And praise the One who died for me If healing never comes I will be patient If healing never comes I will know peace I will trust the One Who is always faithful I will trust the One Who holds eternity If healing never comes And I will rise on the wings of the morning And I will sail on the crystal sea And I run to the arms of the Father And praise the One who set me free If healing never comes I will rise on the wings of the morning And I will soar in realms of majesty And I will stand with millions of angels And praise the One who set me free Written by Ricky R. I have heard the sound of a misty rain As it falls upon my face I have felt the force of the autumn breeze As it wraps me in a cool embrace Takes me to a familiar place Where I am not alone I am not alone I have seen the fear in a willow tree As lighting paints the sky All the beauty of its majesty Cannot be captured by human eyes The heavens testify That I am not alone I am not alone Deep calling out to deep The spirit of Heaven Speaking to the deepest part in me To me …….my soul hears your voice For I am not alone I am not alone I am not alone Written by Ricky R. about

The last time Birmingham based Christian rock-pop band Paradox (formerly Spirit Band) played together was over 30 years ago. Like most bands, life and time pulled the members in opposite musical directions.

Yet when one of the founding members, rhythm guitarist Steve Robertson, was diagnosed with ALS in 2020, the other founding members reached out to find a way to help. Writer and singer Ricky Hall (Atlanta), bassist Barry Page (Birmingham), and guitarist George Vinson (Nashville), reformed to record this 8-song EP of all new material to help raise support and awareness for their bandmate.

Using technology to overcome the distance, the trio swapped material online, held countless Zoom meetings, finally converging at Bates Brothers Recording in Birmingham to add live drums and other elements (including using speech generating software to allow Steve to contribute spoken word).

The final result is powerful. Rather than downplay and avoid Steve’s struggle, the band leaned into what he is feeling in the songs “The Other Side of Broken” and the penultimate “If Healing Never Comes (I Will Rise),” an epic cinematic soundscape that tells his story through words and music.

The reality of ALS is that it robs a husband, father, brother, and friend of his freedom of movement. A thief that takes walking, driving, speaking, singing, breathing, eating, swallowing, and playing guitar. What it cannot do, however, is rob a man of his hope or shake and crack his faith. This music is inspired by and dedicated to Steve.

All proceeds from the project will go to Steve and his family to help offset the staggering costs of such an illness.
